Rob DeRooy
A skilled woodworker, Rob will occasionally come across a log on his property. Just lying there. Not terribly useful. But Rob sees what others don’t. He sees what the log could be. Then he patiently realizes its potential through the skillful application of best practices. As Vice-President of Governance and Strategy, Rob brings that same keen insight and craftsmanship to his work.
A highly-respected consultant, he regularly performs board and CEO evaluations, governance audits, and best practice reviews in addition to facilitating strategic planning and thinking sessions. A faculty member for both The Directors College and The Professional Director Certification Program®, Rob is a skilled presenter and passionate about sharing his governance expertise.
Prior to joining Governance Solutions, Rob had a 20+ year career as a senior executive, serving both as a CEO and a board member on several boards. Having been on both sides of the table gave Rob the opportunity to see where the “bright red line” between the Board and Management should be and how to best keep it in place.
Rob earned his Bachelor of Commerce degree at McMaster University and obtained the Chartered Director (C.Dir.) designation from The Directors College. Outside of the office Rob enjoys woodworking and is currently learning how to fly fish.
